Gene has lived alone in a Surabaya kost for six years. He can't name the faces in his own family photo, and he doesn't remember why he left. Home is Jl. Kenanga 7, Jayapura: five hours by air, one stop in Makassar. Every clue sends him somewhere else first.

I Forgot is a short, hand-drawn psychological mystery made for the THE LONG WAY HOME game jam. It plays right here in your browser. Headphones recommended.

The long way

  1. Kost · a note on the desk: "Don't call home."
  2. Office · two days to show up, or lose the job.
  3. Road / City · the pawn shop, the pharmacy, the bank.
  4. Airport · GA 207 to Jayapura. The last chance to turn back.
  5. Neighborhood · the school, the bench, Bu Sari.
  6. Family House · the table is set for four.

What Gene wants

Rung 1 · "I need to know why I left." Rung 2 · "I need to go home." Rung 3 · "I need to find out what happened when I went home." Rung 4 · "I need to understand what home means."

What you do

  • Explore rooms and streets, examine objects, and collect what Gene left behind.
  • Log memory fragments on the Memory Board and catch the ones that contradict each other.
  • Follow the Goal Ladder from the first question to the last.
  • Beat the work deadline in the Kost before the job, and the trip, slip away.
